Amy Schumer Confirms Separation From Husband Chris Fischer After Seven Years

Amy Schumer has confirmed she is separating from her husband, chef Chris Fischer, ending their seven-year marriage. The Emmy-winning comedian shared the news on Friday in a characteristically offbeat Instagram post that mixed humor with honesty, making it clear the decision was mutual and respectful.

“Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” Schumer, 44, wrote, immediately undercutting the seriousness of the announcement with jokes aimed at online speculation.

A Marriage That Began Quickly

Schumer and Fischer met in 2017 and moved fast. The pair were only seen together publicly a handful of times before marrying in a private ceremony in Malibu, California, in 2018. Fischer, a farmer and James Beard Award-winning chef, largely stayed out of the spotlight, while Schumer continued her high-profile career in comedy and film.

Together, they share a six-year-old son, Gene David Fischer, who remains the couple’s top priority.

“We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son,” Schumer wrote, adding that they ask for privacy as they navigate the transition.

Addressing Rumors Head-On

The separation follows months of speculation about the state of their marriage. Earlier this month, Schumer publicly addressed the rumors, pushing back against assumptions tied to her health, weight loss, or her husband’s autism diagnosis.

“Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she wrote on December 1. “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”

Schumer previously shared Fischer’s autism diagnosis in her 2019 Netflix special Growing, speaking openly about how it shaped their relationship.

Health, Honesty, and Humor

In recent years, Schumer has been candid about her own health struggles, including endometriosis and a 2024 diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome, which she said developed as a side effect of steroid treatments following a breast reduction and C-section. She has also discussed using GLP-1 medications for weight loss, topics she referenced with humor in her separation announcement.

Around the same time, fans noticed Schumer had deleted many Instagram photos, including images from her wedding and marriage. Anticipating speculation, she joked in a now-deleted post that she removed them “for no reason.”

“Family Forever”

Despite the split, Schumer emphasized that there is no animosity between her and Fischer.

“Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever,” she wrote.

She later reshared the announcement on her Instagram Stories, pairing it with U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” a subtle nod to both closure and uncertainty.
