Care and Maintenance

Your concrete element is properly sealed when it leaves our workshop.

We have developed a sealing technique that provides excellent protection while preserving a natural finish that enables an easy DIY maintenance, just like oil treated wood. This means that you can treat your sink with all the loving care you want, cleaning it thoroughly, sanding it down if necessary and resealing it. And this is all done using a simple method that requires little time.

Our finishing and protection processes harmoniously complement our carefully and passionately crafted products. The natural patina that develops with wear and tear reflects our vision of concrete as a product abiding by the laws of gravity and chemistry, bearing its own marks and whose life and transformation cycle will extend into your environment.

Our finishing process features:

  • Very natural feel with a matte finish
  • Resistance to scratches, heat and oils
  • Good protection under normal bathroom use
  • DIY maintenance including sanding, if needed
  • Quick and easy sealant reapplication
  • Development of a smooth and natural patina

Care and Maintenance – What you need to know*

  • We recommend purchasing our Maintenance kit along with your sink. This kit includes some care and maintenance essentials for your new concrete unit.

  • Use a mild soap to clean common residues (toothpaste, hand soap, etc.)

  • Use the spray cleaner provided in the Maintenance kit as often as you like. It’s a great cleaning complement as it adds a micro-layer of sealant with each use.

  • If concrete is exposed to water for a long period of time, its surface will normally take on a darker colour. This is due to the water vapour that has passed through the waterproofing barrier. This absorption is normal and temporary; the ring (a rise due to moisture) will disappear on its own as it dries.

  • As with any natural material, avoid letting stagnant dirt dry out on the surface. We highly recommend cleaning traces of solvent or peroxide-based products (like those found in drugstores) as soon as they appear. In addition, use caution with acidic liquids (like vinegar and citrus juice, not commonly used in the bathroom).

  • Also beware citrus-based hand soaps whose residues can leave spots on the surface if they sit there for a while.

  • Should any spots, stains or discoloration occur, stay calm! All you need to do is sand the spotted area using a polishing pad. If necessary, add sealant locally on the sanded area. Refer to the instructions provided in the Maintenance kit.

  • We recommend applying a coat of sealant to our concrete element once or twice a year. An easy process that takes about 15 minutes. Refer to the instructions provided in the Maintenance kit.
Note: in certain settings (commercial and institutional), we use a hybrid polyurethane acrylic sealant that does not require reapplication. Read our blog post for further info on this topic.

*Do you own a Pur Béton sink? Please carefully follow the recommendations on the Maintenance sheet provided with your sink. If in doubt, please feel free to contact us by email at [email protected] or by phone at 514-886-2444; we will be happy to help you.

Breaks, cracks?

Chipping: Concrete is a very durable material, but it can chip if you hit it with a hard object. If this happens, you can sand the chipped area to smooth it out or fill it with a coloured resin. Contact us for further assistance with this repair.

Hairline cracks: Occasionally, hairline cracks may be present on the concrete unit. Hairline cracks are caused by the expansion and shrinkage phases during concrete curing. These microcracks do not cause elements to separate. They are superficial, sometimes visible and generally non-absorbent and barely noticeable to the touch.

 Please note that we guarantee our concrete units against structural cracks. More details in the next paragraph.

We guarantee our concrete elements against manufacturing defects and structural cracks for a period of two (2) years.

This warranty does not include or covers:

  • superficial cracks;
  • damage caused during installation or due to improper installation;
  • damage caused by improper cleaning or care;
  • damage caused by improper use;
  • damage caused by acts of abuse to the products resulting in scratches, chips, stains or other marks/damages;
  • damage caused by drilling, alteration or any attempt to modify the product contrary to its original design and acceptance.

Variations in colour and surfacing (intensity and uniformity of colour, casting effects, stains, hairline cracks, halos, calcium buildups, efflorescence, variations in reflection or surface conditions) are normal characteristics of any products made of concrete. These effects and the patina that concrete products will take on with age and use can in no way be considered manufacturing defects.

This limited warranty is applicable from the date of product’s original purchase or delivery. In addition, it is non-transferable and therefore only valid for the original owner.

Damages due to improper installation by a third party, shock due to negligence or accident, misuse, vandalism, natural disaster or other acts of God are not covered by the warranty.

Any transformations or alterations made to our products and/or to their supporting structure will automatically void this warranty. The warranty is limited to the repair, replacement or refund of the element manufactured by Pur Béton, provided that the claim is made within the warranty period. The warranty covers the replacement, repair or refund of the defective part and is subject to the sole discretion of Pur Béton. Labour costs and any other related costs (plumbing, adjacent materials and transportation costs) for the replacement of one of our products are not covered by the warranty.
