The only catch is that you must unlock the Mystery Gift feature first and stay connected to the Internet while collecting your rewards.

How to Unlock Mystery Gift in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The Mystery Gift feature becomes available after your first meeting with Mable during Main Mission 3 – A New Life in Lumiose City. This usually happens about an hour into the story unless you take scenic detours catching Pokémon.
Once unlocked, open the main in-game menu and choose Link Play. You’ll see Mystery Gift listed on the right-hand side.
How to Redeem Your Mystery Gifts
Mystery Gifts can be claimed in two ways: using a code or downloading directly from the Internet. Both require an online connection, though you won’t need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
To redeem via Internet:
- Open the in-game menu and select Link Play.
- Choose Mystery Gift.
- Let your console connect online.
- Select Get via Internet to view all available gifts and download them instantly.
